As part of our commitment to our environment and to help enable the sustainability goals of our customers, we have signed the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment.

Commitment #1:
Continuously innovating and collaborating on solutions that enable packages with improved recyclability and more recycled content.: Husky has developed key partnerships with several organizations throughout the circular economy chain from rPET decontamination technology providers to recycling and collection organizations such as the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR).

To help our customers incorporate more recycled materials Husky has brought to market our recycled melt to preform system. This system enables our customers to bring more than 60,000,000 kg of recycled PET annually into the circular economy in the 12-24 months. The first system capable of 13,000,000 kg annually has launched and is currently in production.

Husky advocates for design for recycling, recycled content and increasing recycling rates through industry lead extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs.
Commitment #2:
Developing consumer packaging solutions that minimize environmental impact, are of the highest functionality and convenience with uncompromised food and consumer safety.: Husky offers solutions that can minimize environmental impact through reducing packaging material, improving energy efficiency and utilizing recycled materials. The majority of Husky solutions can process PCR up to 100%.

Husky has developed weight saving solutions that reduce the overall material and carbon footprint of the package. New lightweight closure and thread design for carbonated soft drink packages allows the reduction of the neck and closure material of a bottle up to 30% on every single bottle. Customers have now started to adopt the new thread finishes and some systems have already launched successfully into production.
Commitment #3:
Continued research and partnerships for recyclable materials and engineering packages.: Husky has active research projects to identify and remove barriers to using different qualities of recycled materials in injection molding packaging applications with a focus on PET beverage containers. This includes both mechanical and advanced recycled PET materials.

One initiative where Husky is making a difference in package recyclability is our commitment to tethered closure solutions that enable the cap to remain fixed to the bottle. Husky has developed a portfolio of tethered closure options that are compatible with industry standard neck finishes, that can be implemented in any region. Husky has several systems already in use today producing tethered closures.
Commitment #4:
Keeping our customers in the lead through solutions that further sustainability without sacrificing value, enabling them to achieve their sustainability goals.: Husky keeps our customers in the lead through executing key projects targeting: Design for circularity, intelligent packaging, increased recycled content, and bio-based and alternative materials.
One example of this is our membership in the Holy Grail 2.0 project that is pioneering digital technology that enables better sorting and higher recycling rates for packaging in the EU.
Commitment #5:
Developing the best and safest packaging solutions. Now, and in the future.: We remain committed to providing the best and safest packaging solutions. Our efforts to supply packaging solutions and hardware through the Covid-19 pandemic have helped our customers respond to the need for hand sanitizer, testing kits, critical medical devices (injectable medication devices and metered-dose inhalers) and other essential items.
